Tap Dancing Organizations

Information about tap dancing associations and other tap organizations around the world.

International Dance Organization (IDO)
Independent world dance and dance sport federation establshed in September of 1981 to to provide Continental and World Championship competitions to both amateur and professional dancers in forms of dance not covered other international dance federations.

International Tap Association
Texas based organization founded in 1987 to serve the needs of the tap dancing community and promote the understanding, preservation, and development of tap dancing as an art form.

Tap Legacy Foundation
Organization founded by Gregory Hines, Andrew Memr, and Joseph Nemr in 2002 to preserve and advance the art of tap dancing.

American Tap Dance Foundation
New York based organization founded in 1986 to establish and legitimize tap dancing as a vital component of American Dance through creation, presentation, education, and preservation.

Chicago Human Rhythm Project Illinois based organization established in 1990 to build a community through American tap dancing and percussive arts by organizing classes, performances, and eduational outreach programs.

Robert L. Reed Tap Heritage Institute
Presents the the St. Louis Tap Festival and operates of a tap dancing school in the U.S. state of Missouri.

Other Dance Organizations

World DanceSport Federation (WDSF)
Organization recognized by the International Olympic Committee and the international federation for competitive Latin and standard ballroom dancing. At the time of this writing, tap dancing was NOT included in the disciplines they govern. Members are national dance sport federations representing countries around the world.
