Jo Scanlan established a new Guiness world record for highest number of taps per minute, achieved on a television show in April of 2009. She tapped 784 taps per minute, which is about 13 taps per second. Her record was broken by Anthony Morigerato in 2011, who achieved 1,163 taps per minute.
