Tribute to Tap Dancer Mable Lee (1921-2019)

A tribute, profile and fan site for singer, and tap dancer, and dance instructor Mable Lee. Mable Lee appeared on the cover of Ebony Magazine in March of 1947.

Mable Lee was a singer and jazz tap dancer who began performing at age 4. She started performing with big bands at local clubs at age 9, and by age 12 she appeared regularly at the famous Top Hat African American nightclub on Auburn Avenue in the city of Atlanta.

Lee moved to New York City in 1940 to pursue a career singing and dancing. She performed at several New York nightclubs including dancing in the chorus at the West End Theater on 125th Street. She appeared at the Palladium in London for several months.

2014 Update on Mable Lee
Mable broke her hip and shoulder in 2014 in South Korea where she had traveled to teach. Korean dancers and Mable Lee fans around the world contributed to cover the cost of her surgery, which had to take place in Korea to make her well enough to travel back to the United States. As of October 2014 she had completed all of her surgeries, spent some time in a rehabilitation facility, and returned to her home.

2004: Received the Flo-Bert Lifetime Achievement Award
2008: Inducted into the Tap Dance Hall of Fame
2014: Broke her hip in South Korea
2019: Died on February 7 in New York City.
