PLACE OF DEATH: San Francisco, California, United States

Stan Kahn studied ballet and tap dancing with Grover Abel, Katherine Duffy, and Louis Dapron. He met his wife after moving to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1937.

Mason-Kahn Dance Studios (1939-1990)
Stan and his wife opened their own dance studio on Market Street in San Francisco in 1939. The dancing school was called the "Mason-Kahn Studios". It was located inside the old Embassy Theater building on Market Streetat 7th, right around the corner from the Odd Fellows Building. The Mason-Kahn dancers performed in San Francisco's nightclubs in the 1940's. Stan Kahn began a 32-year career as choreographer for the Ice Follies in 1946.

After his wife died in 1992, Stan was sponsored by Kika Sampaio to teach in Sao Paulo Brazil.

Stan Kahn is also know for his dance documentation system known as"Kahnotation", notation system developed specifically for tap dancing. He began developing it in the 1930's and his system was copyrighted in 1951.
