The Motor City Tap Festival was founded and is produced by Denise Caston and it is hosted by the Maggie Allesee Department of Dance at Wayne State University. There was a tap festival in the Detroit area in the 1990's but it was discontinued, and for many years after, there were no tap festivals in the greater Detroit area of Michigan. Denise Caston-Clark's Motor City Tap Festival was first held in 2008.
