History of Tap Festivals Held in Portland
A Portland-based tap dancing festival known as "Tappin With the Masters" was held in 1986. An event known as the "Portland Tap Festival" was presented by the Pacific Dance Festivals (PDF) organization and held between 1989 and 1995. A group of local dancers established the Portland Tap Alliance (PTA) organization in 2015 to bring back that festival. The PTA-produced festival was the named the "Portland Tap Dance Festival" to distinguish it from the festival held in the 1990's. The first edition of resurrected festival was held in May of 2016.
