Auditons for Season 1 of "So You Think You Can Dance USA" were judged by Bonnie Lythgoe, Jeff Thacker, and Nigel Lythgoe. Only dancers between age 18 and age 30 were accepted to audition. There were auditon venues in three United States cities:

Episodes of Season 1

Episode 1 - July 20, 2005
Auditions in Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York City.

Episode 2 - July 27, 2005
The season 1 call-backs were not in Las Vegas, they were in Hollywood, California. The 50 dancers who made it through the initial auditions competed in a Hollywood call-back episode.

Episode 3 - August 3, 2005
Eliminations after the Hollywood call-back round reduced the top 50 to the top 26.

Episode 4 - August 10, 2005
Eliminations reduced the top 26 to the top 16.

Episode 5 - August 17, 2005
This was the "Meet the Top 16" episode. Judges for Episode 5 included Nigel Lythgoe, Brian Friedman, Dan Karaty, and Mia Michaels. The top 16 dancers, eight males and eight females, each performed twice, once solo and once with a partner. Tap Dancer Sandra Colton performed a solo tap dance and a duo lyrical dance in this episode. ELIMINATED: Jonnis Tannis and Sandra Colton.

Episode 6 - August 24, 2005
Judges for Episode 6 included Nigel Lythgoe, Mary Murphy, Brian Friedman, and Dan Karaty. Dancers performed solo and duo dances ELIMINATED: Craig DeRosa and Michelle Brooke.

Episode 7 - August 31, 2005
Judges for Episode 7 included Nigel Lythgoe, Mary Murphy, Mia Michaels, and Brian Friedman. Two of the top 14 dancers were eliminated and the remaining 12 dancers performed. ELIMINATED: Allan Frias and Snow Urban.

Episode 8 - September 7, 2005
Judges for Episode 7 included Nigel Lythgoe, Brian Friedman, Dan Karaty, and Mia Michaels. Two of the top 12 dancers were eliminated and the remaining 10 dancers performed. ELIMINATED: Destini Rogers and Ryan Conferido

Episode 9 - September 14, 2005
Judges for Episode 9 included Nigel Lythgoe, Mary Murphy, Brian Friedman, and Dan Karaty. Two of the top 10 dancers were eliminated and the remaining 8 dancers performed. ELIMINATED: Artem Chigvinsev and Melissa Vella.

Episode 10 - September 21, 2005
Judges for Episode 10 included : Nigel Lythgoe, Mary Murphy, , Dan KaratyMia Michaels. Two of the top 8 dancers were eliminated and the remaining 6 dancers performed. ELIMINATED: Blake McGrath and Kamilah Barrett

Episode 11 - September 28, 2005
Judges for Episode 11 included Nigel Lythgoe, Brian Friedman, Dan Karaty, and Mia Michaels. Two of the top 6 dancers were eliminated and the remaining 4 dancers performed.

Episode 12 - October 5, 2005
The top two dancers competed for $100,000 and an apartment in New York City for a year in the final episode of Season 1 of the U.S> version of the So You Think You Can Dance" competition TV show.
