Metronome Tap Dancing

Information about tap dancing the beat of a metronome.

What Is A Metronome?

A metronome is a mechanical or electronic instrument that makes repeating sounds at an adjustable rate.

Why Tap Dance With a Metronome?

Metronomes are useful to tap dancers who want to practice dancing at different speeds and dancers who want to dance to a particular number of beats per minute. Metronomes can also train a dancer to dance in perfect time to the beat, to keep a consistent pace while dancing, and to gradually increase their speed while practicing a particular tap step, combo, or routine.

Record for Most Taps Per Minute

According to the Guiness Book of World Records Web site, the most taps per minute (BPM) ever achieved by a tap dancer is 1,163 taps in 60 seconds, achieved by Anthony Morigerato at Eleanor's School of Dance in Albany New York, on June 23, 2011.

Acording another source, Roy Castle of the United Kingdom set a record for tap dancing at 1,440 taps in 60 seconds in 1973.

Acording still another source, the record for the most taps per minute was set by Michael Flatley, who achieved 2,100 taps per minute i 1998.
